'The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease' – Thomas Edison
Were Edison’s words prophetic? There is an ever-growing body of knowledge on the use of foods and nutrients in preventing as well as treating disease. Many common medical conditions respond quite well to diet therapy. They respond because good nutrition addresses the underlying cause of the illness rather than simply covering up the symptoms.
Have you heard the expression? ‘You are what you eat?’ What determines the composition of your body? Your genes certainly play an important role, but the way in which they are actually expressed is largely determined by the foods you eat and the emotions (stress) that you impose on yourself. Whether you are in a state of poor health or desire better health, improving the quality of the foods you regularly consume is a must.
