MIGRAINES

“A migraine headache is one that affects one half of the head and may be accompanies by disordered vision and gastrointestinal disturbances. There may also be sharp stabbing pains in the temple region. Migraines are usually the result of hidden food sensitivities. Almost any food could be involved, but the most common offenders include alcoholic beverages (especially red wine), aspartame, caffeine, cheese, chocolate, milk, nitrates and nitrites, and tyramine (found in aged cheeses, fermented sausages, sour cream, etc.) Some migraine headaches are caused or aggravated by hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Supplements that may help to reduce the severity and frequency of migraines include magnesium, and omega-3 fish oils.” -written by David W. Roland

“Migraines are very often triggered by food allergies, hormonal changes brought about by stress, and, surprisingly, by chronic dehydration”. - Rima Laibow, M.D.

Migraine headaches affect 15 to 20 percent of men and 25 to 30 percent of women. Migraines are also more likely to happen during certain times of a woman’s cycle, or hormonal shift, usually at the beginning or the end of menses and sometimes during ovulation.

Migraine symptoms include lightheadedness, throbbing pain on one side of the head, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision, hot and cold flashes, and hypersensitivity to light and sound. Migraine sufferers often experience warning symptoms or auras for a few minutes before experiencing pain. These auras consist of blurred vision, muddled thinking, exhaustion, worry, and numbness or tingling on one side of the body.

By keeping a diary the monthly cycle (for women), of foods consumed and at what time of the day this helps in being able to track down the culprit. Another major cause of migraines is colon congestion or poor digestion. What goes in must come out. If your digestive system is compromised it can sometimes trigger migraines amongst a long list of other symptoms.

LET'S DANCE

READ THIS VERY SLOWLY....
Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word "refrigeration" mean anything?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

Count the times you call your relatives and say, "How about going to lunch in a half hour?" They will come up with, "I can't. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I have plans, had a late breakfast ." We take it for granted that they will always be there. It is like building a sand castle on sandbars…sometimes the tide comes in and we haven’t even noticed it until we feel something wet or a wave destroys part of our sandcastle.

We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college. We’ll go to Paris when the mortgage is paid. Well my brother never did get to go to Paris.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I'm going to," "I plan on," and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit."

When anyone calls 'my seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, "We'll do it tomorrow." And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say "Hi"?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.... Life is not a race Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!"

Cardio Care And Nutrition

Coffee

The relationship of coffee to cardiovascular diseases is obscured by confounding variables. Those who avoid caffeine also tend to consume more vegetables, exercise more and take vitamin supplements more regularly than those who consume caffeinated coffee. Caffeine is an alkaloid that stimulates the adrenal glands and central nervous system, and aggravates hypoglycemia. It also has a diuretic effect on the kidneys. Certain individuals who are allergic or sensitive may develop hypertension in response to caffeine consumption.

Chocolate

There are no studies relating chocolate consumption to the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Chocolate contains theobromine, an alkaloid similar to caffeine. The primary ingredient in most chocolate confections is sugar. Dark chocolate tends to contain less sugar and less fat than milk chocolate.
