Cardio Care And Nutrition

Coffee

The relationship of coffee to cardiovascular diseases is obscured by confounding variables. Those who avoid caffeine also tend to consume more vegetables, exercise more and take vitamin supplements more regularly than those who consume caffeinated coffee. Caffeine is an alkaloid that stimulates the adrenal glands and central nervous system, and aggravates hypoglycemia. It also has a diuretic effect on the kidneys. Certain individuals who are allergic or sensitive may develop hypertension in response to caffeine consumption.

Chocolate

There are no studies relating chocolate consumption to the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Chocolate contains theobromine, an alkaloid similar to caffeine. The primary ingredient in most chocolate confections is sugar. Dark chocolate tends to contain less sugar and less fat than milk chocolate.
