Body Basics

You are what you eat and assimilate. It is equally true that you are what you do not eliminate. If undigested food and waste products are not eliminated from the body they accumulate and become reabsorbed. Every tissue and organ of the body will feel the effects of these toxic substances. This is the underlying cause of today's many modern diseases and ill health. (see Flax Facts article to start keeping your body clean)

Maligned Avocado

Avocados have been given a bad rap. Physicians have been warning heart patients and those on weight reduction diets to avoid the avocado. Superhero of the immune system, the avocado is rich in the powerful detoxifier glutathione.

Glutathione-rich avocados actually help cleanse the body of dangerous oxidized fats. Avocados have been dismissed as a healing food due to its fat content, but it contains monounsaturated fats, the ones that are recommended to help the body deal with oxidation and free radicals. Potassium and chromium are also found in avocados. Potassium is used to treat high blood pressure, water balance in the body, and kidney, heart and adrenal function. Chromium works to help control blood sugar levels by helping insulin work more efficiently. It is used for the treatment of hypoglycemia, diabetes, high cholesterol, to normilze triglyceride levels and to increase fat loss.

Chew on that information...and see recipe for avocado dip under recipe button.

Short-Circuiting Dry Cough

When you finally hit that pillow at night and the old tickly throat and tears start, how can you swiftly stifle the tickle?

  • Give it a rest - rest is important to get rid of lingering colds and flus. Also rest your voice by talking less.
  • Elevate your head - either by elevating your mattress or elevating your head with several pillows.
  • Keep it moist - in the good old days when cough syrup was not around, people simply put a thin face cloth over their nose and mouth. This keeps passages moist and works within minutes. Drink plenty of pure water.
  • Nighty night....
